Hi Karen! My guess is that this issue may have been caused by the type of kale that was provided in the bagged product. Different types of kale have different flavors and even textures. I prefer a green kale or even a redbor kale to keep the bitterness out.

I need your help. I made this recipe 3 times. The 1st time it was excellent, the kale was home grown and curly. It tasted just like Panda Express's super greens but better!! The 2nd and 3rd time the kale was bought in a bag and the end product was bitter. Should I rinse the bagged kale with lemon juice before preparing? The kale was flat pieces with only a couple curly pieces. I know, I should look for better kale, right?

I ran across your recipe while looking for a way to enjoy cooked kale. I've never had either raw or cooked before so i stripped the hard spine out, then used lemon juice, olive oil and rubbed the leaves to remove the tart taste but didn't rinse. I then used bacon gear to sauté onion and garlic then added chicken broth. Preliminary taste testing is good! Thank you for the recipe.
